Diwali (Deepawali) 2026: Lakshmi Puja Muhurat for US, Canada, UK, India and More

Diwali (Deepawali) 2026 is on Sunday, November 8, 2026. In Australia and Fiji, Lakshmi Puja is on the evening of Monday, November 9.

Diwali, also called Deepavali and Deepawali, is the festival of lights. It falls on the Amavasya (new moon) at the end of Ashwin in the Amanta calendar, which is Kartika Krishna Amavasya in the Purnimanta calendar. The main night is Lakshmi Puja, when families worship Lakshmi and Ganesha in the evening and light rows of lamps. The Vishnu Purana and the Bhagavata Purana tell how Lakshmi rose from the churning of the ocean of milk; another telling remembers Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya.
