Akshaya Navami (Amla Navami) 2026 is on Wednesday, November 18, 2026 in India, the United States, Canada and the UK.
Akshaya Navami falls on Kartika Shukla Navami, the ninth day of the bright half of Kartika, and it is held to be as auspicious as Akshaya Tritiya. It is also called Amla Navami. On this day devotees bathe in holy rivers and worship under the amla tree (the Indian gooseberry, called Dhatri), which is believed to be the abode of Lord Vishnu on this day. Walking around the amla tree and giving amla in charity is said to bring merit that never runs out, akshaya.
The amla tree has its own place in the Skanda Purana story told for Tulsi Vivah: when Lord Vishnu grieved for Vrinda, the goddesses gave the gods seeds to sow, and from them grew the Dhatri (amla), the Malati (jasmine) and the Tulasi.
